“It was emotional, the lead into the race was really special, something I’ll remember and cherish for a long time. Today our strategy didn’t play too well. If we’d had a late safety car, it would have fallen into our hands. That’s what it’s all about, we try hard, we work as a team, we win and lose as a team and I’m really proud of what we’ve done as a team and achieved this year. A really big thanks to everyone that’s been involved. To finish fourth in the championship is real credit to the team, it showed we can still fight it with the best and I’m really looking forward to closing this chapter off now. 2019 will be a big year in lots of ways. Congratulations to Scotty (McLaughlin) and to all their guys, they did a great job. Shane (van Gisbergen) is probably gutted, but we’ll fight back, Triple Eight always does. I wanted to do a bigger burnout than Scotty, so hopefully that came true. The rear tyres need a warranty job, but it’s nice to blow off a bit of steam after a long day. Big thanks to the fans, it’s been a hell of a weekend.”

Qualifying: Ninth (Fastest Lap: 1:10.9953)
Race: 23rd

Craig Lowndes (#888) – Holden Commodore ZB

“We take a lot of positives out of today – we’ve finished a race in Newcastle for the first time! We qualified reasonably well and the car pace up until the incident was really good, looking after its tyres and fuel. There was a little mishap in pit lane, which broke the steering. With a street circuit like this, you get a lot of congestion when safety cars come out, so it was disappointing to have that result. Great work by the crew, they got us back out, but the steering wheel was still about a quarter of a turn out and we just wanted to make sure we finished the race. It’s disappointing, but it’s still good points and we’ve got a lot to look forward to tomorrow.”

Practice 1: Fifth (Fastest Lap: 1:11.3321)
Practice 2: 12th (Fastest Lap: 1:10.8929)

Craig Lowndes (#888) – Holden Commodore ZB

“It’s been a busy day running around doing the corporate side of it, but it’s been an encouraging day. Although we were 12th in that last practice session, we were only point four off of pole. The car’s feeling good, we made a number of adjustments and I’m really looking forward to getting into qualifying tomorrow. We’ll sit down and have a good look at the data. The good thing is Jamie (Whincup) is quite strong in second, so we’ve got some data we can learn from. I’m happy with the car, we just need to find a little bit more speed and around here a nice, easy car to drive is good for a race car, but not necessarily for qualifying, so we’ll sharpen it up and see what we can do tomorrow.”
